Step-By-Step Counselling & Therapies offers bespoke EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) for individuals experiencing psychological trauma.

EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), developed by Francine Shapiro in 1987, is an interactive therapeutic process that is widely used in the field of psychological trauma and PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). It can be an effective therapy for reprocessing past and recent trauma, phobias, anxiety, panic attacks, performance anxiety, depression, disturbing life experiences, bereavement and many mental health issues.

EMDR Therapy facilitates the desensitisation of traumatic memories, cognitive restructuring and significant reduction in symptoms through accessing and re-processing target issues whilst completing sets of bilateral stimulation through rhythmical eye, auditory or kinaesthetic movements.

As an experienced Counsellor, Psychotherapist and Hypnotherapist you can be assured of being guided through the EMDR process at a safe pace for you. Multiple sessions will be required, depending on the trauma issue, to achieve effective results over an appropriate time frame.

Counselling, Psychotherapy, CBT, Hypnotherapy and Holistic Therapies are also available separately or can be integrated alongside EMDR sessions, if considered beneficial.

What to expect from your EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) session?

EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is offered as a multi session therapy to help alleviate symptoms associated with trauma memories.

Your initial session will form our introduction, contract and assessment, followed by bespoke therapy and suggested plan for moving forward, taking 60-90 minutes. At the end of this session we should have a good understanding of presenting issues and suggested areas to be worked on, should you wish to continue your therapy.

Thereafter, each 60-90 minute session consists of bespoke therapy, tailored to your needs, with the emphasis on working at an appropriate and manageable pace but also being as effective as possible each time. During sessions, we will work through trauma memories in a controlled way, helping you to reprocess and store them more effectively.
