Person-Centred Counselling

Person-Centred/Humanistic Counselling or Psychotherapy provides a safe and confidential environment in which to explore your issues, your story, at your own pace.  It is totally Client led, with the emphasis on promoting acceptance, empowerment and supporting you on your journey to find clarity and peace.

At Step-By-Step Counselling, I offer you the opportunity to be understood, respected, and listened to empathically without being judged. By exploring your feelings, you will begin to understand yourself and your strengths and weaknesses, giving you the opportunity for change. Awareness is the key; it empowers you to make choices and gives you the opportunity to move forward, taking steps as and when you are ready to make them.

Each session will be directed by you, exploring the issues that are uppermost at the time. Step by step you will be supported on your individual journey to address your problems and enable you to make choices/change, only when you are ready to do so.

Person-Centred Therapy was founded by Carl Rogers in the 1930's and his theory & therapy forms the very basis of being heard with empathy, respect, acceptance and understanding.

Whilst the Counselling is underpinned by Person Centred Therapy, a combination of integrative/complementary therapies may also be used as an aid to development & growth, again tailored to each individual, as no two peoples lives or experiences are the same. Other aspects of later theories/therapies may also be used to further enhance growth/change within the 'umberella' of the Person-Centred Approach.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Solution Focused Therapy can be helpful to ‘goal set’ and find a way forward, Transactional Analysis (TA) can be useful in identifying life patterns/scripts. Psychodynamic Theory can aid exploration of sub-conscious emotional issues. Together these can provide a powerful combination to promote change.

"What Is Necessary To Change a Person Is To Change His Awareness Of Himself"
